Participants will explore techniques for effectively using Prismacolour Premier coloured pencils by drawing one of southwestern BC's common backyard birds - a spotted towhee. The day begins with an overview of fundamental techniques before we move into drawing the bird. There will be a short lunch break as well as a couple of other quick breaks so we can stretch and keep our strenght up!

Each participant will recieve paper we will be using as the drawing surface, a printed hand-out, and a reference photo of the towhee. Other materials and tools will be available in the studio but participants are responsible for purchasing some supplies in advance, as noted below.

SUPPLY LIST
Participants are responsible for bringing the following:
  • A set of Prismacolor Premier coloured pencils (a basic set of 12 is perfectly OK but avoid theme packs such as "Botanical Garden" or "Under the Sea"). The pencils MUST be Prismacolor Premier because others may not be compatible with the techniques we will be covering.
  • A liquid blending pen, Prismacolor brand preferred
  • A colorless blending pencil, Prismacolor brand preferred (PC 1077)
  • A packed lunch or you could choose to drive to the Farm Gate Store (5 mins by car) where you'll find sandwiches and other options. Coffee/tea and snacks will be provided, and a basic kitchen (microwave, toaster, kettle & fridge) is available to use.
  • Enthusiasm and a sense of humor!
These additional supplies & tools will be available to use during the session:
  • Individual Prismacolour Premier pencils in the following colours:
    - Indigo (PC 901)
    - Ginger Root (PC 1084)
    - Black Cherry (PC 1078)
    - 50% French Gray (PC 1072)
    - 70% Cool Gray (PC 1065)
  • Electric eraser
  • White plastic eraser
  • 4B lead pencil
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Fine-tip embossing stylus
  • A sharp implement such as an X-acto knife or etching tool
  • A soft, wide brush to dust away eraser crumbs

I'm looking forward to having you join me and I hope you'll find the session to be both informative and fun! If you have questions, please direct them to [email protected]. Note that space is limited to six participants. Others may request to be placed on a waiting list in case of cancellations.
